Camp Galil is celebrating 50th anniversary as a Zionist summer
camp in Ottsville, Pennsylvania — part of the Habonim Dror movement.
Each
summer a special community service project is chosen for Tikkun
Olam day. This summer, the chanichim (campers) from Camp
Galil joined forces with other about 400 additional community
volunteers to help the Jewish Relief
Agency package and deliver food to 1,930 low-income Jewish families.
Four b'nai mitzvot Morgan Cohen, Eli Katz, Rachael Lassoff, Benjamin Leon, and their
guests were among the volunteers as part of their bar or bat mitzvah
projects. Center City Kehillah, Congregation Beth Or, Greater Philadelphia
Cares, Yesh Shabbat Camp and Congregation Shaare Shamayim organized
additional groups of volunteers.
The spirit and enthusiasm of the volunteers
singing Israeli songs as they packaged inspired all who are involved with the program.
The
Galil contingent required four buses to transport all the campers
from the camp site in Ottsville, PA to the warehouse to pack and
then to different housing complexes to distribute food. The youngest
campers handed out cans of non-perishable food while the older
camper carried out the heavy boxes.
Please come help out for the next monthly distribution, on
>September
17, just days before Rosh Hashanah, as the Jewish Relief Agency performs the "last big mitzvah" of the year 5766.
Have your kids outgrown their clothes? Planning to clean out your closets this summer?
The JRA's clothing collection program is continuing in full force! Please put your gently used clothing, shoes and household linens in plastic trash bags and bring them with you to the next distribution.
