Successful Women Reflect On Life Goals

A panel of successful women - moderated by ABC News correspondent Lynn Sherr - will address the challenges and rewards of pursuing their career and life goals as part of a gala event, "Live it Up!," sponsored by a Jewish Federation division at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue at 5:30 p.m. on March 16.

"The ?Women's Gala? will be a signature event filled with celebration and education," said Eve Orlow, president of the Women's Philanthropy Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. "Women's Philanthropy is a driving force in our community. We will celebrate Jewish women from all walks of life and we will learn more about the amazing work that Federation does to help our family members, both here and abroad, live life to the fullest."

Panelists will be Hope Cohen, hostess of the "Fretz Kitchen" on CN8; Laurie Ann Goldman, CEO of Spanx Inc., the women's apparel company; and Amy Wynn Pastor of TLC's Trading Spaces.

Sherr was one of 10 graduates of Lower Merion High School selected as distinguished alumni in 1996. Sherr has been a correspondent with ABC News since 1977 and for "20/20" since 1986.

Alina Spaulding, director of Outreach and Education at the Greensboro (N.C.) Jewish Federation, will speak on how she was given the chance to succeed because of the help that Federation and its community partners provided her family. Under very difficult circumstances, Spaulding's family fled the former Soviet Union in 1979 with the help of partner Jewish agencies funded through Federation campaigns in Philadelphia and across North America.

The event includes a cocktail reception featuring live music, food and drinks. Couvert is $50 per person. The recommended minimum gift to support Federation programs that help the community and women locally and around the world is $360.

Women's Gala co-chairs are Hilary Bayer of Ambler; Sheree Bloch, Bryn Mawr; Jayne Perilstein, Narberth; Joyce Rosenberg, Penn Valley; Rachel Steinberg, Jenkintown; and Constance Smukler, Philadelphia.
