This is an easy recipe to make with children, while providing a taste of Rosh Hashanah from the shtetl. 1.
Mix together
either by hand or using an electric mixer:
2. Roll dough into small pieces about the size of a large marble or, alternately, roll into ¾"-thick ropes and slice into equal-sized pieces. 3.
Bring to a boil: 4. Drop in the bits of dough and simmer over a low flame for about 1 hour. Remove the pot from the heat and pour in ½ cup boiling water, mixing with a wooden spoon. 5. Turn the contents onto a cookie sheet to cool. When the teiglach are cool enough to handle, build a mound on a paper plate or square of parchment. If you like, stir in 1/4 cup candied fruit before mixture cools completely. |
